I’m Brooks, the photographer and storyteller behind J.Brooks Studio & Collective. I’ve spent years quietly collecting moments—on the sidelines, in living rooms, at kitchen tables—and I’ve seen how powerful it is to have honest images of your real life. Now I use photography and video to help families remember their seasons and help businesses show up as their true selves in a very noisy world.

My love for this didn’t appear out of nowhere. My dad was the one who always had a camera or camcorder in his hand, determined to save every moment. As a kid, I didn’t always appreciate being filmed or photographed. Now those images are some of my most treasured possessions—and a huge reason I believe so deeply in documenting the seasons of our lives and the work we pour ourselves into.

Alongside photography and video, I also help shape the way your story shows up online. That might mean refining your visual brand, designing or refreshing your website, creating custom graphics, or supporting your social media presence—so your images don’t just live in a gallery, they actively work for your life and your business.

Discover the extraordinary in the simplest moments—kids running through the house, you laughing with your people, or the exact way you show up in your work. That’s the raw material I use to tell your story.

01.

Fact 1

I grew up in small-town North Carolina & Guatemala City, Guatemala thanks to my Dad's international career. That mix of places taught me early on to pay attention to culture, color, and the way people live day to day.

02.

Fact 2

So much of my photography started on the sidelines of my kids’ games and events. I fell in love with capturing motion, emotion, and those tiny, in-between moments that never happen in stiff, posed portraits.

03.

Fact 3

My dad was “that parent” with a camera or camcorder at every gathering. I used to think it was a bit much. Now, those photos and videos are priceless—and they’re a constant reminder of how important it is to keep a record of a life.

Fact 4

I’m sentimental and strategic. I care deeply about how a photo feels, and I also care about how your visuals work together—on your walls, on your website, and across your brand—so everything is telling the same story.
